Comic Illustration

Above is my process up until now for the illustration comic project. The top image is our 5 preliminary sketches that were made while I was absent from class sufFering from PNEUMONIA, but it still got done by the next class period. Rusty picked the first sketch I did, thinking it was funny and i agree because of my dry humor. The next image is of 2 preliminary sketches in ink of 2 variations of how the chosen piece could be delivered, and once again the first piece was chosen as the crowd favorite. The next image is a detailed ink drawing of the comic without the chalk outline subject (which will be scanned in later as a negative cutout to portray a realistic chalky feeling. The last image was done through my own misunderstanding of the project. I thought we had to show how we wanted it 2 look in color before we took it into photoshop, but none the less it didn't hurt to get it out on paper.

Family Member Memory portrait

Above is the condensed process of the memory portrait project. the top image is 3 of the 5 variations of a family member that had to be done from memory with no photo reference. I scanned in these 3 because the other 2 didnt look anything like my mother and would be disrespectful to post them looking the way they do, she would probably be mad 2 see what i thought she looked like without seeing a picture. Rusty picked the middle picture and it went onto the final process onto the 8x10 illustration board, the media used being guoache  paint. i think the final product turned out pretty well but may have done better if i would have included a line outline with pen ink. but its still my momma ; )

Product Placement

Above is my illustration for a product of choice from a beverage. I chose a beverage that is very beneficial for the functioning of my body as the sun goes down, Nuclear Energy Drink. My illustration turned out pretty well, i fixed a lot of preliminary problems before I went in with color so the majority of my struggle lied with adding the metallic highlights to the right side of the can. The background was purely imagination based of the name of the drink, GREEN MACHINE.

Repeated subject

The above painting wee from a set done previously where we had to pu=ick a single subject and recreate it 10 times in whatever kinds of media or varying techniques to make each look different. My subject was a painted blue brick. The first painting was achieved by focusing on the negative space and using soft strokes to build the brick. The 2nd photo was achieved using values of blue and black to create the brink with imagionary lines of where the brink 's surface changes. i think they turned out well

Experiments in Gouache

The first picture is my first time using the gouche . I like this type of paint compared to acrylic and water color because it was easier to achieve a variety of values to get my folds of the hoodie looking more realistic than if I had just used white paint to bring out the highlights. Even though ot may be vain I used my favorite subject again on this piece... ME! The 2nd photo is just the same picture but saved in CMYK, I just liked the way it looked so I posted it 2.

Water Color on 20 x 30

Above is what I painted for the over the weekend assignment to paint anything I wanted in water color on a 20x 20 piece of water color paper. I painted a self portrait if myself from a picture I took at the park Friday evening. The background turned out ok but could have been a little bit more realistic when it comes to the grass. the actual "self" part of the painting turned out pretty good, the shadow effect I tried to mimc from the picture got a little dramatized and characterized but its pretty close to recreating the sun setting on the right side of my face where the highlights are.

Water Color + Ink Drawing

The 2 pieces above were the 2 that I think worked out the best with water color first then ink drawing on top. I prefer this method more than vice-versa because it allows the painter to recreate the subject matter without having to worry as much as much about the water color getting too loose and wild to the point of your subject being unrecognizable. Also with the ink drawing after the pain has dried, gives the painter more control over any problem areas that may have gotten to blurry r messy because of an excess of water ( which happens to me a lot with the use of water colors). In the future though I ned to use a larger variety of line widths to create more depth beyond water colors.

Ink Drawing + Water Color

Out of the set of 10 pieces that were done with half being ink drawings first then water color on top this is the piece that I think worked out the best. The piece was originally a blurry nightlife landscape of a city-line picture right after the sun had set in the port of Miami. When compared to painting in water color first then drawing over the painting in ink I usually prefer that but, this piece worked out better than some of the others that I assumed would come out more aesthetically pleasing.

Water Color Scenery

Above is the water color painting I did out of my set of ten that I think was the most successful. I think it worked because I didnt try to control the flow of the various colors to represent the sunset, I just let them flow was naturally as they would if they were in nature. In the future though I could paint the sun first or leave an open area for it so cut down on the over colors of the sky fading into it.
