Out of the fifteen layout designs presented from another designer, the one I found the most aesthetically pleasing was the one with 2 mirrored chili peppers surrounded by fire, underneath the title of the event. The structure of the layout is pretty symmetrical. The concept seems to be surrounded around the idea of the chili being extremely hot. As far as texture and use of lines: everything was uniform. A variation of line styles & widths in conjunction with shading could be use to make it easier to separate different elements from each other in a black and white layout. I also think that if one of the chili peppers was extended lower into the layout, it would give the layout more of a "full" feeling, distributing elements through out the page, not being limited to just one area of the page around the title.
I was tying to get the feeling of hot across, which I guess worked. I get what you are saying with the chili peppers, when I was making this , after I had inked one of the peppers that the layout was split in half and would look weird if I only extended one of the peppers. I also plan to to either give the peppers or the fire heavier lines to bring them out more. Thanks for the input, and hopefully I can use it to make this better.
